Outdoor Event Planning - The source for outdoor event planning in Northern Ireland

This event planning guide is a simple step by step process allowing you to easily identify the good practice you should follow when planning your outdoor challenge event in Northern Ireland’s outdoors.

Although the good practice guidance has been created to assist you when planning outdoor challenege events anywhere in Northern Ireland, if your event is scheduled to take place in a European designated area (a designated area is an area protected under law for its natural landscape characteristics or for the wildlife it supports. Within Northern Ireland there are hundreds of designated areas including many sites protected under European law; this is the highest level of designation an area can have) within the Mournes or Ring of Gullion Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs), there are additional factors to consider when planning your event, and on the day itself. A step by step process is outlined below.

Is your event taking place in a designated area within the Mournes or Ring of Gullion AONBs?

If you're not sure, check the map below to see if your event will be taking place in any of the RAMSAR, SAC, or SPA designations.

Ramsar site - protected because of the special wetland characteristics
Special Area of Conservation (SAC) - protected because of the special habitat characteristics
Special Protection Area (SPA) - protected because of the resident or visiting birdlife supported
