Event Planning

If you are planning an event in Northern Ireland’s outdoors, completing an Event Form will help you easily identify the good practice you should follow.

Due to their European environmental designation status (a designated area is an area protected under law for its natural landscape characteristics or for the wildlife it supports), events held within The Mournes, Ring of Gullion or Strangford Lough and Lecale areas, require additional considerations when planning an event and on the day itself.

The Events Form is a simple, step by step process to help you easily identify the good practice you should follow and allows you to provide information to those involved with land management within the area you are holding your event, in order to highlight any special considerations or protection measures that will help when planning it.

Simply download the Event Form and fill in the fields. Once completed, e-mail the form along with any route maps or other relevant information to info@outdooreventplanning.com.

For all events, whether in a designated area or elsewhere in Northern Ireland’s natural environment, completing the Event Form will assist in the development of your event management plan.

Remember to follow the good practice guidelines outlined in the 'Toolkit to Responsible and Sustainable Outdoor Challenge Events' when planning your event.

The toolkit can be downloaded here.

Your form will be sent to the relevant land management body who will contact you if they need any further information. You will receive a response to confirm the form has been received. The land management bodies who will be contacted will depend on the area in which your event is being held:

  • Mourne – Mourne Heritage Trust and National Trust
  • Ring of Gullion – Ring of Gullion Landscape Partnership
  • Strangford Lough and Lecale - Strangford Lough & Lecale Partnership and National Trust

Completing the Event Form does not negate the need to contact local Councils or individual land owners or managers separately in order to obtain the appropriate licenses or permissions for your event. The notified land management body for each area should be able to assist in contacting other relevant persons or organisations.

This project is funded by Sport Northern Ireland and the Northern Ireland Environment Agency and is supported by Mourne Heritage Trust, Leave No Trace, National Trust, Ring of Gullion Landscape Partnership Scheme, Strangford Lough and Lecale Partnership and Causeway Coast and Glens Heritage Trust.
